Daniel Ellsberg: Wikileaks Founder ‘Would Do Well To Keep His Whereabouts Unknown’

On April 16, journalist John Cole wrote:

The message is clear — you torture people and then destroy the evidence, and you get off without so much as a sternly worded letter. If you are a whistle blower outlining criminal behavior by the government, you get prosecuted.

In fact, it’s worse. Under Bush, torture was official policy. It remains so under Obama who absolved CIA torturers, despite unequivocal evidence of their guilt. But leaking it risks criminal prosecution for revealing state secrets and endangering national security.

Lonely battle of an Israeli whistle-blower

File photo of Mordechai Vanunu (centre). Mordechai Vanunu's case is as much about suppressing dissent by a supposedly democratic state as it is a demonstration of western double standards.

Had Mordechai Vanunu been, say, an Iranian or a Russian whistle-blower and facing persecution at home, he would have been assured of a prominent place in the western pantheon of heroes. But he is an Israeli dissident and Israel’s friends in the West have no time for him.

The Morocco-born Mr. Vanunu first hit the headlines more than two decades ago when he revealed details of Israel’s secret nuclear programme to a British newspaper — an offence for which he served a long jail term. Since then, he has been fighting an almost lone battle against harassment by successive Israeli administrations even though since his release in 2004 he has not said or done anything to harm the country’s security.

Israeli War Crimes: From the U.S. Liberty to the Humanitarian Flotilla

It is unthinkable that Israel’s premeditated deadly assault on the humanitarian flotilla could have gone ahead without a nod from Washington. James Petras lambastes Barack Obama and the U.S. Government for their refusal to condemn Israel and their outrageous political cover-up of a deliberate criminal act. In the face of such State complicity, the only way to put pressure on Israel is for civil society to sustain the world-wide boycott, disinvestment and sanctions campaign (BDS) against all Israeli products, cultural activities and professional exchanges.

Attacks on Gaza Mercy Convoy Are Nothing New

Killing in the Middle East by Israel has been real to me from days of my youth, growing up with Syrian-American kids at the Greek Orthodox church in Peoria, Ill. I understood more deeply when I later got to know Palestinians who were my fellow parishioners at the Antiochian church in Chicago. But never was the impact greater than when Israeli ships on Memorial Day killed peace activists bringing humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Cyber Warfare over a 9/11 Symposium?

March 31, 2003: A hooded Iraqi prisoner of war comforts his four-year-old son at a US-run centre for POWs near An Najaf, Iraq.

Unbelievable as it may seem, a series of emails about a public event scheduled for Wednesday, 14 July 2010–including two over this past weekend–have not reached their destinations. The explanation appears to be that the authorities, especially in the UK, do not want an event devoted to debunking the so-called “war on terror” to occur. The symposium, an evening event featuring the founder of Scholars for 9/11 Truth (me), the co-founder of Muslims for 9/11 Truth (Kevin Barrett), and the celebrated jazz musician and political commentator (Gilad Atzmon), will explain why 9/11 does not justify wars in Iraq and in Afghanistan. We were able to secure perhaps the best venue in London, Friends House opposite Euston Station, but unless the public knows that it is going to take place, we may be speaking to an empty hall. Interference with emails thus appears to be the cheapest and most effective method of bringing this effort to inform the public about the use of a “false flag” attack to instill fear into the American and British public in order to manipulate them for political purposes. The stakes are very high in a case like this, which appears to be the reason that extraordinary steps are being taken to make sure it is not a success.
